The journals feature within Library SmartSearch has been upgraded and includes new functionality. 


Search for a journal title within SmartSearch, and use the Journal search box in your results list to search for articles within that journal!

Select the Journals link from the banner and either search for the title you want, or browse a list of journals within a certain discipline!

The Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior, launched in March 2014, is devoted to publishing reviews of the I/O Psychology and HRM/OB literature. The first volume was published in March 2014 and the second volume was published in April 2015.  You can view forthcoming articles for Volume 3 now.

Journals and articles from Taylor & Francis currently unavailable

The e-journals platform Taylor & Francis is currently unavailable due to a technical problem. The suppliers of the platform are looking into this as a matter of urgency. This blog post will be updated when the problem has been resolved.

In the meantime if you are using Find it @ Aston to access journal articles and the article is from another supplier as well as Taylor & Francis please use one of these links instead to access the full text.

Our suppliers have informed us that this problem should now be fixed and you should be able to access journals and articles from Taylor & Francis.  Please let us know if you are still having problems with access.

JoVE Biology goes mobile

The Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) is a peer reviewed scientific video journal, and at Aston you have full access to JoVE Biology. JoVE has just released two brand new mobile apps (via the Apple App Store and Google Play) and an optimized version of the JoVE website that delivers seamless access to content from any mobile device.

In each case, you will need to register for an account with JoVE to access the content - just use your institutional e-mail address to get access to subscribed content.

Online article formats: HTML vs PDF

This month, IEEE Xplore is starting to make their articles available in HTML format, as well as PDF format, with a view to having this complete for all articles by the end of 2014.

A PDF of a journal article is a great format for printing and downloading, and you see the article in the layout and design in which it will have appeared in the printed journal.

However, the HTML format, provided in addition to PDF by most major publishers, has a number of advantages:

• Use browser functions to change the text size, copy quotations and find keywords
• Navigate easily between sections of long articles
• Explore figures, equations, and multimedia files (something the Royal Society of Chemistry have excelled in with their Project Prospect)

Technical problem linking to journal articles

There is currently a technical problem with links to journal articles via the Library Catalogue and the Aston e-Library (14:25, 16th August 2010). You can still obtain access to journal articles from the list of Electronic Resources on the Library home page or from full-text journal databases using the Find Resource tab within the Aston e-Library.

Please note: problem now resolved (14:40, 16th August 2010).

Find it @ Aston E-journals not opening correctly

There’s currently a problem when using the Find it @ Aston e-journals service in Internet Explorer version 8. You might find that when you click on GO from the Find it @ Aston pop-up box, the full-text of the journal never opens. In order to get round this, please use Mozilla Firefox for the time being, or close any other windows that you have open in Internet Explorer before accessing the full-text journal. The suppliers are aware of this issue and are working on a fix. We hope to have this resolved soon.
