Launch of new updates to LexisLibrary - Law Database

A number of improvements are being made to Lexis®Library - it is easier to use, more intuitive, allowing students to better understand the law in practice. To avoid unnecessary disruption, LexisNexis are launching a number of updates simultaneously.

These changes take effect on Saturday 5th December 2015.

The update will bring a number of cosmetic changes enabling easier searching and presenting results in a clearer format. There are also significant improvements to the search results and better integration between LexisLibrary and LexisPSL. Please see the attached document LexisLibrary – Academic User Guide for updated product guidance. Please do feel free to use this document to update your own training materials.

Highlights:

A more intuitive search experience.
The Explore search box moves to the heart of the homepage and includes content filters.

A tidier, bigger, better display of results.
Single results list opens up the page, with filtering in one place and the option to deliver multiple documents.

The option to search across ALL subscribed UK legal content.
In one place for the first time, including both LexisLibrary and LexisPSL content included in the search results.

Glossary searches move to the home page
Get quick access to over 3,300 legal terms.

LexisLibrary and Westlaw training and certification workshop

LLB and Law with Management students,

To coincide with your study skills week we are offering a chance to take part in a free Westlaw and LexisLibrary training and certification workshop.  As a student studying Law you know that Westlaw and LexisLibrary are the two big legal databases providing access to legal cases, legislation and journal articles.

Certification is a great way of testing your legal research skills and learning how to use Lexis and Westlaw most effectively. It also looks great on your CV and demonstrates to employers that you have a good standard of legal research skills. You’re not just saying it – you’ve got proof!  We have invited a professional trainer from each company to guide you through the database and support you through the certification process.

How to book on to the workshops

We are running a certification workshop for each database.  Lexis Library we are repeating the session in the morning and afternoon please only book on to one workshop for LexisLibrary.  For Westlaw there is now a choice or you can do both.  Click on the workshop of choice to book your event ticket.

LLB or Law with Management students - Legal database certfication workshop

As part of study skills week we will be offering LLB and Law with Management students a chance to take part in a workshop where you will be trained by an official LexisLibrary and Westlaw trainer and receive certification on each of the databases.

New Law Journals available on LexisLibrary

Lexis Library is one of our key databases for Law.  Recently, the database has uploaded content from new journal titles including:
 
Uniform Law Review
Published by Oxford University Press, this quarterly journal has an archive commencing from 1996.  The journal provides information on the political and technical problems of the harmonisation of private and commercial law the world-over. A large part is being reserved for the work carried out in UNIDROIT. It comprises a collection of material on the continuing progress achieved in the field of the unification of law, in particular:

• Periodical reports on the progress realised in this field by international and regional organisations
• Studies carried out with a view to the unification of law
• Texts of uniform laws, conventions and other instruments adopted at international level
• An updated bibliography on the subject
• A regular selection of case law of various countries illustrating their application of uniform law texts

Emerald Insight journals
Lexis Library has recently added another five journals from Emerald Insight:

• The Journal of Money Laundering Control – The world’s only quarterly, peer-reviewed journal designed to give quality insight into the latest law, regulation, techniques and best practice in the prevention, identification and prosecution of money laundering.

• The Journal of Financial Crime – The leading journal in its field publishes authoritative and detailed insight on the latest law, regulation and best practice in the prevention, detection and prosecution of financial crime, and tracing and recovering missing assets.

• The Journal of Financial Regulation and Compliance – Publishes high quality applied research in regulation and compliance through expert analyses, reviews, case studies and authoritative research articles.

• The International Journal of Law in the Built Environment – Provides a vehicle for the publication of high quality legal scholarship in the context of the design, construction, management and use of the built environment.

• The Journal of International Trade Law and Policy – Provides a forum for current issues in all aspects of international trade, including legal, economic, management and policy issues.

LexisLibrary - Law Database: Login problem now fixed

**The login problem has now been fixed. Apologies for the inconvenience**

We are currently experiencing a problem with access to Butterworths Lexis Library. We are aware that access is unavailable on-campus or off-campus at the present time. We have logged the fault with the company and we will let you know as soon as we can when the problem has been resovled.

Access to Aston University Library Law Databases

Aston University Library is aware that there is a technical problem at the moment which is preventing staff and student access to the following law databases:

Lawtel
LexisLibrary
Westlaw

The problem has been logged and we will alert you when it has been resolved.

Access to Lexis Library and Nexis UK

Due to a problem with the login system, on and off-campus access to Lexis Library is currently unavailable. Off-campus access to Nexis UK is also unavailable. While we attempt to fix this, Nexis UK is still available on-campus and can be accessed off-campus by going via the proxy server. We will add a comment to this post when the problem is fixed. Apologies for the inconvenience.

**UPDATE** While the suppliers are trying to fix this problem, they have set up IP access to Lexis Library for us. This means that Lexis Library is now available on-campus, and can be accessed via the proxy server from off-campus.
