Proquest - Business Journal Database system maintenance

On Sunday March 13, 2016, ProQuest will be installing critical firmware updates to its systems infrastructure. The window is scheduled to begin at 03:00 AM and will last for eight (8) hours 11:00 AM

Do you use the Proquest database? New content has been added to ABI Inform

The largest dataset ever loaded to ABI/INFORM, the Experian Commercial Risk Database provides brief company profiles for over 40M U.S. companies, updated monthly. With over 30 years’ experience in business credit, Experian collects data on both private and public companies, with special expertise in small and medium-sized businesses.

These new reports allow students and researchers to see details such as contact information, size, industry, MSA, sales range, business type, bankruptcy information, credit risk, and more. This information is extremely useful for helping students research industries, market size and companies - for assignments or job prospecting.

Here are a few examples of the searches available for Experian:

•    Pub(Experian)
•    Document type:  Company Profile
•    pub(Experian) AND naics("5111*" ) AND loc(Chicago)
•    Pub(Experian) and "Employee Size Range: 1-4"
•    Pub(Experian) and Bankruptcy filed?: No
•    Pub(Experian) and “year business started: 2005” and county near dupage

Proquest: advance notification of maintenance

On Sunday February 16th ProQuest will make improvements to its internal systems to accomodate a growing number of users and to reduce the need for future downtime. During this time, all Proquest databases (including ABI Inform) will be unavailable from 3am for 8 hours.

Problems accessing journal articles via Proquest?

There are intermittent problems at the moment with access to PDF versions of articles via Proquest databases.  These databases include ABI Inform, Proquest Entrepreneurship, PsycArticles and IBSS.

The problems are occuring when you are trying to access the databases off-campus using your Univesity username and password.

Please be assured that the Library is working with Proquest to rectify the problems but in the meantime we have found these workarounds to the problems:

1. If a page has not loaded after 30 seconds please try clicking the "refresh" button.  This usually brings the page up a second time.
2. If you would like to view the PDF version of the article try clicking the Open in PDF Reader option
3. If you see this error message

 Please view the HTML version and choose "Export/Save to PDF" on the Proquest toolbar.

Financial Times - embargo of 30 days now in force

The Financial Times is available to staff and students electronically via two databases

• ABI Inform Complete (business journal database collection) 
• Nexis UK  (newspaper and trade journal collection). 

From the 1st August, 2013 News International have placed a rolling embargo of 30 days on providing FT articles in full text via database providers.  You will still be able to search and identify articles of interest via the databases even those published in the last month.  However, you will need to access our print collection on the ground floor of the library to read an article in full if it was published within 30 days.  The latest copies of the Financial Times are available on the news stand in Café Libro.

To access the Financial Times electronically please

• Go to the Library homepage and choose the icon :
• On the top toolbar choose Journals
• Type in the title of the newspaper Financial Times
• Choose the access you require

Proquest access problems

There are currently intermittent problems with accessing the Proquest database. Proquest are working to try and resolve this and we will update this post as soon as it's been fixed.

ABI Inform Proquest login problem

**Temporary fix**
The database suppliers are working on a fix for the original URL. In the meantime, please go via this URL http://proquest.umi.com/login and follow these steps:

• Select "Login through your library or institution
• Select "United Kingdom (UK federation)
• Select "Aston University"
• Login with your network username and password

We're currently having problems with Shibboleth login for Proquest databases. We've contacted the suppliers about this and hope to have a resolution soon. This post will be updated as soon as the problem is fixed.
