Advance notice: Library systems downtime due to system upgrade on Monday 30th June 2014

The Library will be upgrading its Library Management System on Monday 30th June 2014, starting at 16:00.  The process is expected to be completed by 10:00am on Tuesday 1st July 2014.

During this period you will still be able to:

• Issue and return books using one of the self  service machines
• Use Library SmartSearch to look for resources and access electronic content

You will not be able to:

• Pay your fines
• Renew your books
• Access or check your Library record
• Check the availability of books

You will also not be able to borrow self service laptops between 13:00 on Monday 30th June 2014 and 10:00 on Tuesday 1st July 2014.

Essential maintenance to Self Service laptop system on Wednesday 2nd April between 10:00am and 11:00am

Due to essential maintenance the self service laptop system will be unavailable on Wednesday 2nd April between 10:00am and 11:00am.  During this time you can continue to borrow laptops from the Help Desk if any are available.  Also all laptops borrowed should be returned to the Help Desk.

Normal service should resume at 11:00am.  If you have any queries please email library@aston.ac.uk

Advanced Warning: Planned maintenance for Library System and potential down time on 29th March 2014

We have been advised by our Systems supplier that they will be performing maintenance at their data centre between 00:00 and 05:00 on 29th March 2014.  During this time there may be a period of 15 minutes when our Library System is unavailable for accessing your Library record or using the self service facilities.

Please bear this in mind if you need to renew your books or borrow items during this maintenance window.

Library System - now up and running

The Library System upgrade was successful.  you should now be able to

• Search Library SmartSearch to find books and journal articles and see whether items in the library are available for loan or not. 
• Access your Library Record to renew books, pay fines and so on. 
• Borrow a Laptop from either the Help Desk or the self-service laptop cabinets. 
• Issue or return books in the library, using the self-service machines. 

The Library will be open on Monday 27th May

We are pleased to let you know that the Library will be open on Monday 27th May. However, please note that the Library will be operating on a self-service only basis throughout the day, as the Help desk will be closed. Please remember to bring your uniCARD to swipe in, as day passes will not be available.

If you have any queries on Monday 27th May, please ask at the Reception desk or send an email to library@aston.ac.uk and Library staff will respond to your query on Tuesday morning.

For the benefit of all students please remember that both 2nd and 3rd floors of the Library are for single silent study only, throughout this important revision and examination period.

Maintenance for Self Service Laptop System

Due to essential maintenance by our supplier the Self Service laptops will be unavailable between 12:00am and 4.00am on Tuesday 19th March 2013.  If you have borrowed any laptops that are due for return during this period you will need to hand them in to our night time staff based at the Library reception desk to ensure that they are returned correctly off your Library record.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.  It is expected that the service should be back up and running at the latest by the start of serviced hours on Tuesday 19th March 2013.

Further maintenance to Self Service Laptop System

There will be further maintenance of the Self Service laptop system on Wednesday 20th March 2013 between 2.00am and 4.00am. If you have borrowed any laptops that are due for return during this period you will need to hand them in to our night time staff based at the Library reception desk to ensure that they are returned correctly off your Library record.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.  It is expected that the service should be back up and running at the latest by the start of serviced hours on Thursday 21st March 2013.

Self Service Laptops Temporarily Unavailable

We are currently having problems with our self service laptop service which has meant we have had to put it out of service.  An engineer is on call and we hope to have a resolution to the problem early next week.  Until then the only laptops available for loan are those available from the Help Desk during normal serviced hours.

Self Service Laptops Update

We are pleased to report that the self service laptop system is now back in operation. We apologise for the inconvenience caused as a result of this problem.

Maintenance on the Self Service Laptop system - 25/01/2013

Lapsafe, who supply the Library with their self service laptop system will be running essential maintenance on the system at 22:00 on 25th January 2013.  This may mean that the service is unavailable between 22:00 and 22:30 on 25th January while the work is carried out.

If you have trouble returning your laptop during this period please return them to staff at the Welcome Desk.  You will still need to show your card to staff when handing in the laptop.  If you have any queries please contact us on library@aston.ac.uk

Essential maintenance work on the Library System - 28th March

Important news: Due to essential maintenance the Library catalogue and access to the My Library Record function were unavailable on Wednesday 28th March 2012 after 1.30pm.  This was due to be operational again at 5.00pm but unfortunately the work on the library server had to continue much later than planned.
