What is Journal & Highly Cited Data?  Journal & Highly Cited Data is the module name for Journal Citation Reports and Essential Science Indicators.  This is part of a larger initiative by Thomson Reuters to provide a single environment for research and bibliometric assessment & evaluation.

How do I get access to Journal & Highly Cited Data?  Thomson Reuters are running a free trial and you have access to Journal & Highly Cited Data from 1^st May to 30^th September 2014 via Aston University IP range only. 

1. Go to the Library homepage and choose Library SmartSearch
2. Choose "Databases" on the grey toolbar
3. Choose "W" and click on "Web of Science"
4. You can access Journal Citation Reports and Essential Science Indicators from the black toolbar at the top of the screen

Also, Journal & Highly Cited Data will link to Web of Science, so you can move from from search into analytics without having to re-enter search details.

How will this benefit me?  Journal & Highly Cited Data is a single resource to help institutions make the most informed decisions to support programmes and policies. You’ll be able to easily compare individuals, institutions, and publications, plus pinpoint emerging trends and influential researchers, using this new platform.

What are the key changes?  A re-designed and unified platform for assessing and evaluating research performance that includes:

New! Access to Sage Research Methods until end of March.

Aston staff and students now have access to a temporary trial of Sage Research Methods until the end of March 2013.

Sage Research Methods is a research methods tool created to help researchers, faculty and students with their research projects. It links over 100,000 pages book, journal and reference content with advanced search and discovery tools. Researchers can explore methods concepts to help them design research projects, understand particular methods or identify a new method, conduct their research, and write up their findings. The database contains content from more than 640 books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and handbooks, the entire “Little Green Book,” and Little Blue Book” series, two Major Works collating a selection of journal articles, and newly commissioned videos. Book Citation Indexes - 3 Month Trial

The Thomson Reuters Book Citation Index fully indexes over 30,000 editorially selected books in the sciences, social sciences and humanities (with an emphasis on the social sciences and humanities), from 2005 to the present. 10,000 new books are added each year, and all are indexed at the chapter level.  This new resource is intended to extend the discovery and analysis capabilities of the Web of Knowledge by including comprehensive book citation data.

The Book Citation Index has now been enabled on a three month trial basis (from 7 May) and is accessible via the Web of Knowledge.  If you are off campus, access the Web of Knowledge via Aston e-Library.
