Are you a law student? Would you like to be a certified WestlawUK researcher?

Aston University Library has organised a WestlawUK training workshop that will prepare you for a short test at the end of the workshop. Once you have completed the short test you will be given a certificate to prove your research skills using the database.

The Certification Training workshop gives you an interactive walk-through of Westlaw UK. The Westlaw trainer - Ramita Kahlon, will take you step-by-step through everything you need to know to be a Westlaw UK power user. If you decide to take the test and pass, you’ll be Certified in Westlaw UK and be sent a certificate to demonstrate your skills.

There are two levels of certification:

  1. Basic Certification: Introduction covering effective searching, refining results and using status icons to ensure you are using ‘good’ law.
  2. Advanced Certification: Once you’ve completed Basic, you can move onto Advanced, covering Boolean search connectors, Judicial consideration of case law, legislative modifications and derivation tables, EU and other advanced topics.

If you are interested in booking in to these workshops, they will be running on Wednesday 8th March as part of your study week. There will be a BASIC workshop, followed by an ADVANCED workshop. You can book on to just the BASIC workshop but you will need to have completed a BASIC session before moving on to ADVANCED.
