Going away for the summer vacation period? Advice re Library Books.

The Library wishes all students a very pleasant summer break.

If you're going away for the summer vacation then please bear in mind that books are subject to recall (so may be due back before the start of term 1). With this is mind:

• Don't leave books that you don't need in your accommodation (or anywhere you can't get hold of them)
• Please return any books you don't need to the Library before you go away
• Don't take books abroad in case someone reserves the books and you need to return them

Whilst you are away:

1. Check your Library Record regularly to see when your books are due back
2. Please check your Aston email frequently to renew or return recalled books
3. Check details of the SCONUL Access Summer Vacation scheme if you would like to use another UK academic library.

If a book does get recalled, then you will need to return it to the Library in person or by post. 

Please be aware that fines of £3.50 apply per day if the book is returned after the new due date in the email recall notification. 

We are sure we will continue to see some of you during this period and in the meantime we will also be busy preparing for the new academic session.

In anticipation of the summer vacation, the Library wishes all students a very pleasant summer break.

If you're going away for the summer vacation then please bear in mind that books are subject to recall (so may be due back before the start of term 1). With this is mind:

Library books during the Easter vacation period

If you're going away for the Easter break then please:

• Don't leave books that you don't need in your accommodation (or anywhere you can't get hold of them)
• Please return them to the Library before you go away 
• Don't take books abroad in case someone reserves the books and you need to return them 
• Remember that books are not issued for the whole of the Easter vacation so will need to be renewed where possible (or returned if recalled for another Library user) 

No books will be due back when the Library building is closed from Friday 25 – Tuesday 29 March inclusive and no fines will apply on closed dates. You won't be able to return books during this period. If a 1 day loan book is taken out on Thursday 24th March it will be due back on Wednesday 30th March.

Are your books due back 21st March – 11th April? 

• Check your Library Record to see when your book is due back 
• Renew the book if it hasn't been reserved in the meantime 
• If the book has been reserved and you can't renew it, then you will need to return the book to the Library in person or by post. Please be aware that fines of £3.50 apply per day if the book is returned after the due date. 
• Please check your Aston email frequently over the vacation period in case a book that you've borrowed gets recalled and is subject to a fine.

• Please return them to the Library before you go away
• Don't take books abroad in case someone reserves the books and you need to return them

If a 7 day loan book is taken out on: 

• Monday 14th December it will be due back on Monday 21st December
• Tuesday 15th December it will be due back Tuesday 22nd December
• Wednesday 16th December it will be due back on Wednesday 23 December
• Thursday 17th December it will be due back on Monday 4th January
• Friday 18th December - Wednesday 23 December it will be due back on Monday 4th January

No books will be due back when the Library building is closed from 24th December 2015 to 3rd January 2016 inclusive and no fines will apply on closed dates.  You won't be able to return books during this period.
 

Are your books due back 4th - 11th January?

• Check your Library Record to see when your book is due back

The Library is closed from Friday 3 April until Tuesday 7 April inclusive for the vacation period.  The Library re-opens at 08:00 on Wednesday 8 April.

• From today 27 March 7 day loan books will be issued until Wednesday 8 April.

• However, if your book gets recalled from 27 March onwards, then it will be due back on Wednesday 8 April and you will not be able to renew it.
• Please be prepared to return your book on the due date, either in person or by post.
  We do not recommend:

• taking Library books abroad
• Library fines will still apply and you might not be able to renew if someone has reserved the book.

E-resources

You can continue to use e-resources throughout the vacation period via your University username and password

• E-books are available via Library SmartSearch - do a keyword search and then Limit by Material Type and select E-books
• Please check the LibGuide for your subject if you need guidance on finding resources
