Publish your Gold Open Access articles for free with SAGE

To Aston authors/researchers

SAGE are offering to publish hybrid OA articles for free within the SAGE Choice program for the remainder of 2019. This applies to research articles from Jisc member institutions [ie. Aston] which subscribe to SAGE Premier via the 2019 Jisc Collections agreement that enter production between now and the end of December. It applies to articles published in the SAGE Choice (Hybrid OA) program, details here: https://uk.sagepub.com/en-gb/eur/sage-choice

This must be requested by the author who should use the code “NESLi2019” on the contributor form’s discount code field when submitting the article. Please note, this does not apply to articles already in production or published and cannot be used for articles in SAGE (fully) Gold Open Access journals.

Training sessions during "International Open Access Week"

It’s International Open Access Week, 21-25 October 2019, http://www.openaccessweek.org/ .  And to boost awareness for Aston authors/researchers the Research Services Team in Library Services are offering the following 45-minute training sessions in MB525b.

•             Wednesday 23 October, 2-2.45 : Online researcher profiles
Are you interested in learning how to increase your online presence, the discoverability of your publications and the role open access publishing plays in this? If so, come along to this presentation plus Q&A session to learn about the features and benefits of online researcher IDs and social networks (with Malcolm Horne).

•             Thursday 24 October, 2-2:45 : Setting up your Pure profile and adding content
Are you new to Pure or need a reminder on how everything works? Come along to this training session to find out how to make best use of Pure to highlight your teaching, research and academic achievements (with Leigh Stork).

•             Thursday 24 October, 3-4 : Pure drop-in surgery
Following the Pure training, we will be having a drop-in surgery for those who know how to use Pure but have questions or issues that need fixing (with Leigh Stork).

RESEARCH BITES 2019 *Summer Spectacular*

*NEW* Research Bites 2019


The programme for the Research Bites 2019 seminars has now been announced. These short, informal seminars will be held in the Library 2nd Floor, L215 (Workshop A) on Wednesdays at 13:00 throughout July and August, and feature topics relevant to researchers at all levels. Whether you want a quick refresher on a single topic or a comprehensive updating of your information and research skills, you will find something for you.

Law Students : GET INVOLVED, GET PAID - BOOST YOUR CV

1st Year Law Students

Did you meet Jake Lewis in your first year?

Jake is a final year LLB student and over the last 4 years has been our student representative for Westlaw. Now in his final year he will be leaving the role at the end of June. This leaves a new opening for the position and we would like you to register your interest.

Thomson Reuters who own Westlaw offer a fixed fee of up to £180 a month for the role.

Some of things that Jake did included
  • work with me to organise the Westlaw certification sessions for students,
  • ran clinics every week in term time  (we have a meeting room you can use) 
  • organise competitions and freebies from Thomson Reuters via social media.
 This would look amazing on your CV!!
