Financial Times - embargo of 30 days now in force

The Financial Times is available to staff and students electronically via two databases

  • ABI Inform Complete (business journal database collection)
  • Nexis UK  (newspaper and trade journal collection).

From the 1st August, 2013 News International have placed a rolling embargo of 30 days on providing FT articles in full text via database providers.  You will still be able to search and identify articles of interest via the databases even those published in the last month.  However, you will need to access our print collection on the ground floor of the library to read an article in full if it was published within 30 days.  The latest copies of the Financial Times are available on the news stand in CafĂ© Libro.

To access the Financial Times electronically please
  • Go to the Library homepage and choose the icon :
  • On the top toolbar choose Journals
  • Type in the title of the newspaper Financial Times
  • Choose the access you require

Photograph your Library

Aston University Library - social study
The Guardian newspaper is running a campaign to document the university library of the 21st century.

Through their portal, GuardianWitness, the newspaper is appealing for students, academics and librarians to take photos of their University library.   The photos can be quirky or traditional but just need to express how you think it is being used as a place of work or study and capture the essence of the library building.

To add your photos just choose the blue contribute button within the original article.

Closing date for entries is the Sunday 18 August 2013 at 5pm

Library Refurbishment, Phase 2 - New photos

Floor 2 - Raised floor installed
There was a flurry of excitement in the Library Office on Friday when it was announced that Ovebury had sent through a series of progress photos of the Library Refurbishment.  After days of drilling, loud bangs and some rather momentous crashes above our heads we finally got to see what they had been doing to the 2nd and 3rd floors.

Floor 3 - Stripping out the brickwork
The second floor brick walls are covered in plasterboard and the raised floor has been installed.  The third floor has been stripped down and the sofits sprayed.  Installation of materials is now beginning and some interesting shaped objects are riding up the external lift past the Library Office window - we think it is the new ducting for the ceiling!

If you would like to view more of the photographs please view our Library Flickr page.

Kind Regards
